Dealer Member Benefits and Services

With nearly 70 years of experience representing automotive dealers in Orange County, the Orange County Automobile Dealers Association supports its members by providing many benefits designed to keep members informed of industry developments; assist with regulatory compliance; reduce bottom line expenses and offer networking and professional development opportunities.

If you are considering joining OCADA, we encourage you to review the many benefits we have to offer. There are various ways we support this 9.5 billion dollar industry, and we think you will agree that the OCADA membership is one of the best capitol investments you can make for your business.

Here are a few of the many beneficial programs the association has to offer:

Employment and Training

Automotive Technology Competition
One of the most pressing needs in the automotive industry is to attract quality young individuals to automotive careers. The Automotive Technology Competition is an exciting way to introduce young adults to the automotive industry. We pair up students and dealerships to offer a first hand look at a career in automotive technology and better prepare them for this grueling, hands-on competition. The best and the brightest of the Orange County competition will go on to compete in the National Automotive Technology Competition at the New York Auto Show – OCADA students have placed in the nation’s top 10 for 11 of the program’s 14 years.

This program has proven to be an excellent opportunity for OCADA dealer members to build relationships with students, local schools, instructors and the community. All participants are awarded scholarships at local community colleges with automotive technology programs. A large number of students who participate in the competition pursue a career in the automotive technology – and many are now employed with their mentor dealership.

Student Technician Recruitment Program
Recently there has been a growing need for fast-thinking automotive technicians at Orange County dealerships. The Student Technician Recruitment Program is designed to address this need by actively recruiting college-level students to participate in paid summer internships. We select a high level of college students who will be given the opportunity to intern at participating dealerships, develop their automotive knowledge, and gain valuable experience in technical skills, dealership operations and general business practices. Participating Dealer Sponsors will have the opportunity to observe, first-hand, the interns’ skills, work ethic and interaction with other personnel to verify their dexterity and suitability for a future position. This is an outstanding opportunity to develop long-lasting relationships with college-level upcoming automotive technicians.

OCADA Monthly Seminars
OCADA invests over $30,000 to provide Members with world-class educational seminars. The majority of these seminars are hosted by several of the Top Ten speakers from the NADA convention. Topics focus on different departments within the dealership and over 94% of the attendees rated the seminars as excellent!

Video and Audio Training Lending Library
OCADA provides its members with access to a lending library of dealership specific educational and motivational videos, DVDs and audio CDs from the 2002 to 2009 NADA National Conventions, as well as many other outstanding training programs. The Training Library is a great way to provide training for your staff without ever leaving the dealership and this service is easy to use. By compiling a list of items you want and completing a simple online form, your requested item(s) will be mailed to your dealership for free along with a prepaid return envelope to OCADA.

Free Employment Hotline – Fisher & Phillips
Dealer Members can call the law firm of Fisher & Phillips, Irvine, for free legal assistance. Comprised of nearly 200 attorneys in 18 offices across the nation, the law offices of Fisher & Phillips offer legal advisors with experience representing dealerships in labor and employment law matters, who can provide answers to questions such as whether you have properly documented an employee’s performance, whether you may lay off an employee, or how to handle maternity leave, etc. With this service, basic employment law problems or concerns may be resolved in just one phone call!

Labor Law Posters and Updates
Knowing that keeping your dealership in compliance is a constant challenge, the association has committed to purchasing and distributing all state and federal labor law posters and updates to each of its members, free of charge! As needed, you may also order additional posters through OCADA, either in English or Spanish.

Legal and Legislative

The Orange County Automobile Dealers Association is ever cognizant of the significant impact that legislative and regulatory issues have on your dealership.

A Voice in Government
“All politics is local” and OCADA keeps a close watch on Sacramento, and carefully evaluates the effects of legislative and regulatory actions on your business. The association also works together with CNCDA and their core of seasoned governmental consultants in Sacramento to ensure that a dealer perspective is voiced and heard on legislative issues. On federal issues, OCADA works cooperatively with the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) and the American International Auto Dealers Association (AIADA).

In 2007, OCADA is proud to have worked together with several members of Congress to gain support and sponsorship of HR 2927 – the automobile industry’s CAFE increase legislation.

OCADA Political Action Committee
The OCADA Political Action Committee is designed to support pro-business, pro-dealer candidates and issues in the county and local communities. It has become an influential political organization in Orange County politics. All contributions made by the PAC are recommended by local dealers and approved by the OCADA PAC Board of Directors.

In the 2008 election, OCADA-PAC raised more than $18,750. Over $40,500 was contributed to pro-dealer candidates with 91% going to winners.

Orange County Auto Theft Task Force
OCADA works closely with the Orange County Auto Theft Task Force (OCATT), a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program, to reduce vehicle thefts in Orange County. By working closely with OCATT, we are able to make OCADA members aware of current crime trends and ways to prevent them.
